What is Descriptive Test in SBI PO Exam?

Well, Descriptive test is nothing but the test where you’re English writing skill and your level of accuracy for English language will be tested. In this test, you have to write letters, essay writing, reports etc writing skill test in English language.

Why it is important?

Descriptive test holds 50 marks separately, apart from objective test and GD-PI. Also, you have to score minimum marks in Descriptive test (compulsory). Last year, most of the students failed in SBI PO because of low scoring in descriptive test.

Example questions on Descriptive Test

  1. Write RTI (right to information) to IBPS to check IBPS SO III cut off marks and number of students appeared in each post.
  2. Write an essay on food security bill or Union Budget 2013-14.

How to Prepare for Descriptive Test for SBI PO 2014

Well, as you know that descriptive test is practical subject. I mean it’s better that you write such practical letters, paragraphs or essay for someone you know or for you. I will give you some topics to write on and for that you have to write few paragraphs on given topics.

For Letter Writing (depends on subject), I will suggest you to write a letter to your dear or nearest one in English, email them or even use post. If you don’t know the formatting of letters then you should learn it first, you can use Google or even NCERT books.

For Essay Writing (700-800 words), as per my knowledge SBI will ask you to write on current topics, like Foreign direct investment, general election, Narendara Modi etc.

For Paragraph writing (450-500 words), again it is same as essay writing, but only difference is that there is some change in rule of writing. I mean essay is longer in content while paragraph are shorter in length of words count.

You have to focus on spelling mistakes, sentence formation etc basic things to crack descriptive test. Also, writing speed also going to make big difference. If you are not from English language background then you have to work hard to get good marks in this test. The candidates, who are from English medium, then will not have much problem I guess. But still you have focus on accuracy and speed.
